Investing in our Marriage

Investing in our Marriage

“So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, humans must not pull apart what God has put together.” Matthew 19:6.

Life is busy. We must learn to be intentional about making our marriage a priority. Everyday things will always try to put a wedge between you and your spouse. It starts little by little without us even realizing it and before we know it, we wonder why we feel so distant from the spouse that we were once so connected with.

God wants us to make our marriage a priority. Is it easy? No. Does it take work? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely! Your spouse should be your #1 priority, after God of course.

You may be thinking “But wait, we have children and they take up all of our time, so our marriage is going to have to be on the back burner until they’re out of the house.” No. God doesn’t want us to choose “have a great marriage or be a great parent.” He says “Direct your child in the way they should go and when they are older they will not depart from it.” By prioritizing your spouse before your kids, you are modeling God’s design for a healthy marriage. It is so important that we show and teach our children what God says about marriage instead of what the world says about it. Will some people try to make you feel guilty about putting your spouse before your kids? All the time! But I have come to realize that we are stronger parents when we are stronger together.

Investing in your marriage is something that should be done daily. A few ways you can do this is:

  • Pray together each day
  • Pray for your spouse and your marriage
  • Spend quality time with each other
  • Communicate
  • Listen to one another
  • Learn what each other’s love language is
  • Checking in with each other throughout the day
  • Serve each other daily

God says in Hebrews to consider each other carefully for the purpose of sparking love… We have to make it a priority to invest in each other if we want all that God has for us in our marriage!
